Sunday, Aug. 6 was not a normal day for Patrice Huntley. It was meant to be a special day.
In addition to it being his son’s birthday, the 60-year-old Flushing resident had just received a job promotion and wanted to celebrate both with his family.
Patrice took his four children and stepgranddaughter out to get ice cream.
But at approximately 7:20 p.m., while the family was waiting at a red light on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, a car speeding westbound down Route 27 collided with three cars, including Patrice’s.

Patrice was killed in the crash, along with his daughter Hannah Huntley and son Jeremiah Huntley.
Patrice’s stepdaughter, Brienna, age 18, and his stepgranddaughter Chantel, age 5, remain critically injured.
Hannah was 12 and Jeremiah was 11, according to a GoFundMe started by mother Tasheba Hamilton and a team member by the name of Raja Shah.
Hannah “lived to draw and cuddle her dogs,” Hamilton wrote in the GoFundMe post.
Jeremiah, who was also called JJ, loved running around with his dogs and playing video games.
Just one day after the fundraiser was launched, the community raised tens of thousands.
In addition to covering burial expenses and medical costs for the children in the hospital, Hamilton hopes to raise enough money to cover legal fees to “ensure the driver(s) are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
